Jagan Mohan Reddy was born in an illustrious political family where his father Late Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He started his career as a businessman by starting a TV channel and a newspaper named Sakshi.
He initially didn’t want to join politics but soon after his father’s death, he went on a condolence tour and reached out to the families of the people who committed suicide or went ill by listening to the news of his father’s demise. He contested from INC ticket in the general elections from Kadapa constituency and got elected as an MP. After his fallout with INC in , he started a party called YSR Congress (Yuvajana Shramika Raithu Congress Party). He contested in the Kadapa constituency in the Lok Sabha by-elections and won by a thumping margin of over 5lakh votes.
