His parents were Alessandro, a blacksmith, and Rosa Maltoni, a schoolteacher. They lived in three small rooms on the second floor of a three-story building. Mussolinis mother was known for her devout Catholicism, but due to disagreements between the parents regarding religion, Mussolini was baptized at a later age, rather than as an infant.
