In the 15 years between the release of the Gun Club&#;s first album and their frontman&#;s death in , the bleached-blond rock & roll typhoon known as Jeffrey Lee Pierce touched the lives of Nick Cave, Blondie&#;s Debbie Harry, Depeche Mode&#;s Dave Gahan, filmmaker Jim Jarmusch, Lydia Lunch, and countless others. His music could be invigorating and/or mysterious, sometimes at the same time. With the Gun Club and as a solo artist (sometimes billing himself cheekily as Ramblin&#; Jeffrey Lee), he recorded revved-up punk, Delta-style blues, brooding folk, and Americana all punctuated by his husky moaning and primal howls. His lyrics could be sharp, emotional, and dreamlike; his artistic vision was both singular and eclectic.

All cities on the Canadian prairies boasted numerous teenage rock bands throughout the s. They ran the gamut from primitive to almost sophisticated. But most tended to have one that shone noticeably brighter than the rest. For Regina, Saskatchewan, that band was The Andantes.


For a city of , in , Regina had a small if energetic music scene, particularly in the field of jazz. The first two sort-of rock and roll bands (they also played rockabilly and polkas) in Regina both started in One was Johnny and the Chordnotes featuring Johnny Klimczak, Ken Jefferson, Barry Simmons, and Stu Dodds. Gene Watson Biography

Gene Watson is an American country music singer best known for his hit song, Love in the Hot Afternoon. Among his hit songs include Fourteen Carat Mind and Farewell Party. Watson started his music career in the s by performing in local nightclubs. During the day, he worked in a Houston auto body shop. He got a strong local audience with his stage act and released his première single on Sun Valley Records.

In , the Grand Ole Opry duo, The Wilburn Brothers took Watson on the road briefly. It was The Wilburn Brothers who took Gene to Nashville for the very first time and left him to sing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Gene sang and received a standing ovation.

Afterward, they took him to the Ernest Tubb Record Shop got on stage, and broadcast on The Midnight Jamboree. Then it was back to the Texas honky-tonks and a string of local singles during the ‘60s. Moreover, one of Watson’s small-label singles reached the ear of Capitol Records in Gene achieved mainstream success when Capitol Records picked up Love in The Hot Afternoon.
