Fair City star George McMahon welcomes first child with partner Rachel Smyth

It's a girl for Fair City actor George McMahon as he welcomed his first child with gorgeous girlfriend Rachel Smyth.

The RTE star said that they got a surprise when the little girl arrived in the early hours of Friday morning in Dublin's Rotunda hospital. She arrived 11 days early and weighed 5lbs 4ozs.

The new parents opted for an unusual choice for their baby, they chose to call her Frankie, RSVP Live reports.

"Rachel came up with the name Frankie.

"I don't know where she got it from, but the closest thing we can think of is we're telling people she named her after the pope," George told the Sunday World.

George, who plays Mondo O'Connell on Fair City, had a big rush to make to the hospital in time. In the end, he was right on schedule to see Frankie coming into the world.

"I legged it back in and got in just in time.

"I was over the moon and on the way home I put on Sister Sledge's 'Frankie' on the car stereo and sang along.

Fair City actor, George McMahon married his childhood sweetheart in Spain last week.

The actor, who plays Mondo in the RTE drama, grew up in Celbridge.

Boyzone's Keith Duffy officiated the humanist marriage ceremony last Thursday, August 15 near Nerja. The couple invited close family and friends including a number of Fair City colleagues. Newlyweds, Jenny Dixon and Tom Neville were also in attendance.
