Gottfried Salzmann gehört unter internationalen Kunstkennern, Galeristen und Sammlern zu den ganz großen Malern unserer Zeit. Der Jährige gilt als einer der ersten Aquarellisten nach Er hat der Aquarellmalerei neues Leben eingehaucht und in seiner Meisterhaftigkeit auf ein völlig neues Niveau gehoben. Geboren ist Gottfried Salzmann in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, seit lebt er in Paris. In seinen Heimatort kehrt er regelmäßig zurück, am liebsten zu besonderen Anlässen wie etwa zur Eröffnung der neuen Museumsrundreise „Weg der Kostbarkeiten“. Dort hat ihn Autorin Franziska Lipp getroffen und erfahren, wie es ein junger Pinzgauer in die französische Hauptstadt und weiter in den Olymp der erfolgreichsten zeitgenössischen Maler schaffte.

Gottfried SALZMANN, in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer geboren, studierte von bis an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien und von bis an der Ècole nationale supérieure des beaux arts in Paris. Seit seinen ersten Ausstellungen /69 in Linz, Paris und Salzburg fanden regelmäßig Ausstellungen und Ausstellungsbeteiligungen in europäischen und amerikanischen Galerien und Museen statt. Gottfried Salzmann’s pictures are an invitation to defy gravity, separating the viewer from normal feelings of space and time. His landscapes pull the gaze of the spectator away from the earth, offering glimpses of incalculable depths. Salzmann prefers to look at the world from on high, a modern Icarus floating above land and sea.
Salzmann has a radical concept of the image which has given us his unique views of landscapes and cities, portrayals that are freed from the rules that typically govern such compositions. This concept is rooted in the physical nature of watercolor, a medium he has favored since the early days of his career. He is drawn to its spontaneity and transparency, aspects which it enjoys over every other medium.
In his current work, Salzmann’s ambition is to liberate his watercolors from preconceived ideas causing him to continually seek out innovative methods and techniques, such as the adoption of unconventionally large formats.
