Benito María de los Dolores Pérez Galdós, más conocido como “Benito Pérez Galdós”, nace en Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, España, el 10 de mayo de , y muere en la ciudad de Madrid el 4 de enero de , a los setenta y seis años de edad. Es considerado uno de los mayores exponentes del realismo literario español del siglo XIX, y ha publicado novelas, dramas, crónicas, cuentos y ensayos. Además, es conocida su labor como funcionario en la política de su nación y como académico de la Real Academia Española.
Galdós nace en una familia numerosa: es el décimo hijo de la pareja formada por Sebastián Pérez Macías, un coronel del ejército que lucha en la guerra de la Independencia, y Dolores Galdós Medina. Realiza sus primeros estudios, siendo niño, en el Colegio de San Agustín. En se gradúa con el título de bachiller en Artes en el Instituto de La Laguna, en Tenerife.
